LOHMANN

Donald Lohmann (another cousin of my dad’s from Zumbrota) and his wife Dorothy gave me this wonderful old photo.

On the right are Wilhelmina and Carl Lohmann, whom we have already met. To the left of them is Carl's brother Ferdinand and his wife Caroline (Mediger). To the left of them is Ferdinand and Caroline's daughter Augusta and her husband John Langsdorf. The couple standing in back is Edward and Mathilda (Langsdorf) Lohmann. Edward is the son of Carl and Wilhelmina, and Mathilda is the daughter of John and Augusta. That makes Edward and Mathilda not only married, but also first cousins-once-removed! The boys in front are Howard and Lester Lohmann, sons of Edward and Mathilda. Judging from the apparent ages of the two boys in front, I think it's safe to assume that this picture was taken in 1911.

BACK ROW (left to right):
Edward Lohmann (1882-1972)
Mathilda (Langsdorf) Lohmann (1887-?)

FRONT ROW:
Augusta (Lohmann) Langsdorf (dates unknown)]
John Langsdorf (dates unknown)
Caroline (Mediger) Lohmann (1841-1935)
Ferdinand Lohmann (1835-1913)
Wilhelmina (Kaun) Lohmann (1849-1930)
Carl Lohmann (1848-1927)

CHILDREN:
Howard Lohmann (1908-?)
Lester Lohmann (1911-?)

LOHMANN

Just this past weekend, I visited some of my dad's cousins in Zumbrota, Minnesota, and I got some wonderful old pictures from them. David Lohmann provided this photo of the Carl C. & Wilhelmina (Kaun) Lohmann family.

I believe that it was taken in the late 1890's. Carl and Wilhelmina are my great-grandparents, and my grandfather, Gustav, is the youngest boy, second from the left.

David didn't couldn't positively identify everyone in the picture. But here's what he does know:

  • The woman in back is Anna (Schmidt) Lohmann, wife of John
  • The girl on the right is Eda
  • The boys in front are Otto, Gustav (my grandfather) and H. August
  • Wilhelmina and Carl are seated in the middle

Here's the birth order of their ten children:

  • John (1874-1919)
  • Charles (1876-1959)
  • Louis (1878-1953)
  • Emil (1879-1914)
  • Albert (1881-1881)
  • Edward (1882-1972)
  • Eda (1884-1925)
  • Otto (1886-1910)
  • H. August (1889-1961)
  • Gustav (1892-1963)

So... based on all that, here is my guess:

BACK ROW (left to right):Louis (?), Anna, John (?), Edward (?), Emil (?)
MIDDLE ROW:Charles (?), Wilhelmina, Carl, Eda
FRONT ROW:Otto, Gustav, H. August

WELCOME!

Inspired by my cousin Margaret Jensen Olson, who has been posting her family research at LohmanLibbyFamilyHistory.blogspot.com, I thought that this would be a great way for me to share my findings as well.

Karl & Wilhelmina Lohmann and their four sons emigrated from Germany's Pomeranian Province in the 1860's. Once in America, many family members changed the spelling of their name to LOHMAN. This is my father's family.

Inger Håvik, widow of Torbjørn, immigrated with her seven children from Skjold, Norway in the 1880's. Once in America, the family changed their name to HOVICK. This is my mother's family.
